How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

August 24, 2016

Your air conditioner has put in a lot of work this summer and we still have some more heat coming. Just because the date on the calendar has moved over to fall doesn’t mean you’re done with your AC for the season. Staying up with annual AC maintenance, while also following a handful of other tricks, can help you maintain your air conditioner while staying cozy too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can pile up around your outside unit, specifically during the fall. When the time comes to rake up the leaves in your yard, make sure to rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can impact air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down sooner. We want your air conditioner to last as long as possible.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Keep your thermostat set at the highest temperature you can while still remaining comfy. Whenever possible, take advantage of other cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to get to that temperature. You may think turning your unit off completely will save on energy and help your system, but that makes more work for it to make up when you turn it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is something else that could lead to premature system failure.

Keep Up With AC Maintenance

Keeping a well-maintained system with regular, annual AC maintenance is so important. Our technicians will look at your air conditioner thoroughly and make sure the electric is working properly, the coils and filters are clean and so much more. We take a close look to catch small problems before they become major breakdowns and turn in to an AC repair appointment. Keeping cool and comfy in your own home isn’t something you should have to be worried about, and with our annual AC maintenance you don’t have to worry.
